The neighborhood around Hawthorne Elementary is highly diverse with some unique challenges. The number of students eligible for the free/reduced lunch program equals 82%, more than twice as high as the district average. More than half the school population represents numerous nationalities with English as a second language in many homes. This neighborhood is highly transitory with families coming to Everett as refugees and moving within 18 months of starting school at Hawthorne. In Fall 2014, we began a weekly outreach to the children of this neighborhood. We meet on Saturday morning with a light meal, group worship, and activity “clubs” such as math, crafts, music, etc. We meet weekly from 9AM-noon during the school year (taking time off at school breaks) and twice per month during the summer months.

How Can I Help?

1. Volunteer to serve at the BCA Kids Club at Hawthorne by completing our online volunteer form.

2. Give financially to Compassion Ministries on a regular basis or as requested for special outreach events by giving online.

  • The Compassion Ministry Leadership Team uses the resources that you provide to help meet the needs of the people in our community. By meeting their physical needs, we are afforded the opportunity to help with spiritual needs as well. Nearly every Compassion Ministry is sustained by volunteer hours and generous financial support. If you are interested in learning more, please complete an online volunteer application.

Thank you for your generous support and continued prayers.
