See a hurt and heal it. Find a need and meet it. Look for emptiness and fill it. Detect hopelessness and change it. Watch for aloneness and comfort it.
At BCA, we believe love is “compassion in action.” Loving others the way Jesus loved requires action. We are compelled as disciples of Jesus Christ to heal hurts, meet needs, mend brokenness, reach out in the love of Jesus Christ, and serve others in tangible ways. We visit the sick, minister to the poor, give away food, provide shelter, reach out to widows and orphans (James 1:27), and much more through Compassion Ministries. Why? Because the love of Jesus compels us to ACT!! We cannot simply say, “Be fed, be clothed, be blessed”…and do nothing. We must act and meet needs!!
In Matthew 25:35-36, Jesus says, “For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, I needed clothes, and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me.” Notice the compelling challenge TO ACT in each example. James says, “Faith without works is useless.” We must put our faith into action. Jesus tells us that others will know we are His disciples by our LOVE (John 13:34-35; John 15:9-17). Christ tells us that when we reach out in His name to minister to the needs of others, we are in fact ministering to Him. Jesus says it this way in Matthew 25:40: “I tell you the truth, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers of mine, you did for me.”
Through BCA Compassion Ministries, we are serving Jesus Christ by ministering to the physical and emotional needs of others. And by loving others through tangible expressions of compassion, we are able to show the love of Jesus and invite people to engage the person of Jesus.
There are more than 20 compassion ministries represented at BCA and these ministry expressions are meeting the needs of multitudes of people. If you are involved in giving and serving, THANK YOU!!
