Hebrews 12:1-3: “Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles, and let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us. Let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith…”

Perseverance is the “continued effort to do or achieve something despite difficulties…” In these unprecedented times, it’s safe to say that many of us are facing difficulties unlike anything we’ve ever faced. As we navigate through the events taking place around us, we must persevere. We must continue on, despite the difficulties we’re facing. We must persevere in our marriages and families, we must persevere with kindness and compassion, and we must persevere in our faith.

How do we persevere in such times of uncertainty? We fix our eyes on Jesus. Not only is He the author and perfecter of our faith, He is our Deliverer, the ultimate Conquerer, our Redeemer, Savior and Lord.

My heart goes out to everyone affected by this global crisis we are in. So many of us have been touched in close and personal ways, knowing someone who has fallen ill, someone who has lost their job or lost a loved one. In the face of it all, I challenge us to practice perseverance. Show love, kindness, helpfulness and care to those around you and keep your eyes fixed on Jesus.
