Proverbs 4:18-19 says, “The path of the righteous is like the first gleam of dawn, shining ever brighter till the full light of day. But the way of the wicked is like deep darkness; they do not know what makes them stumble.”
One of the most important questions we need to ask ourselves on a regular (daily) basis is, “Am I on the right road, heading in the right direction?” In other words, we need to evaluate the path of our lives and our trajectory on a consistent basis. Truth be known, many people deviate and lose sight of due north in their lives and experience mission drift. If our mission is to have a strong marriage, great family, mentored kids, strong faith, etc, then we need to measure our steps and live life the right way.
The Bible describes this in terms of righteousness and wickedness. The righteous person, or person who desires to live for God and live the right way, is going to walk in the light. They will see what is right, they will do what is right, they will aim their life at what is right. The wicked person, or the person who does not desire to live for God and live the right way, will essentially be walking in darkness. They will lose their way, confuse their way, and miss the mark in the end.
It is vital to evaluate the details our lives before the Lord on a regular basis. How long has it been since you have evaluated and made appropriate course corrections in areas such as:
- Faith
- Family
- Finances
- Fitness
- Future: Am I on track?
- Forgiveness: Not living with bitterness
- Friendships
…just to name a few?
We choose the direction and trajectory of our life. Storms blow and hardships come, but we must constantly choose our direction and recalibrate our lives if we are going to walk in righteousness and end up living out a God-pleasing life. Choose the right road. Live in the light. God’s rewards await those who do.
