Life is loud. Life is noisy. Life is busy. Life is complicated. Life is stressful.
We need peace.
Peace in the storm. Peace in the eye of life’s hurricanes. Peace when life seems to be roaring out of control.
Have you ever said to yourself, “I need to find some peace and quiet.” Or, “I need to get alone or find somewhere peaceful for a few minutes?” We all have. Maybe that’s how you feel right now.
There is hope and there is good news. When life is chaotic, we can find calm in Christ. Isaiah 26:3,4 says, “You will keep in perfect peace those whose minds are steadfast, because they trust in you. Trust in the Lord forever, for the Lord, the Lord himself, is the Rock eternal.” Notice three powerful things in this verse: the promise, the prescription and the premise.
- The PROMISE | He will keep us in perfect peace.
God can give us peace and rest and calm in the midst of life’s storms. It is possible and available. We need to find His peace so that we can think clearly, pray clearly, and make decisions with a clear head. We all need times of peace; times to be still; times of calm. We need time to ponder and rest and reflect on life. Pursue Christ and His peace by carving out quiet times to pray. - The PRESCRIPTION | Keep our minds stayed on Him, and keep our trust in Him.
We need to continually rely on Christ as our source of peace. Everything else and everyone else can fail us – but not Jesus. He will never let us down. People can (and will) let us down. We can lose jobs and financial peace. We can even lose our physical health and emotional stability. But Jesus invites us to come to Him, and when we do face those losses, He offers us peace and rest. - The PREMISE | He is the mighty Lord, the Rock eternal.
The foundational truth is that when we come to Christ, we are coming to the Peace-giver, who is also the Lord of the universe. He is our foundation and our Rock eternal. There is nothing too great or too hard or too chaotic for Him. The Lord created the universe, calmed the storm, and healed the sick. He provides for the needy, whatever the need is, even when the need is peace.
Pursue peace by pursuing Christ – today, and every day. Life can be challenging. Change is all around us and can create chaos and confusion and conflict. But in Christ we can find peace. We can be still. We can gain perspective. We can receive strength. He invites us to lean into Him and receive His peace. So ask Him for peace today. Pursue Christ and the peace He offers you.
