Join me in a study on the Proverbs: God’s Wisdom for Today. As you read through the Proverbs, I urge you to reflect, pray, and apply these devotional bits of encouragement and wisdom to your own life. Today, we study and reflect on Proverbs 25.

Reflection
Jesus tells a parable in Luke 14 about seating customs in His day. To sit at the head of the table was to presume your own honor. It’s better to sit at that foot of the table and assume a posture of humility, Jesus teaches. We live in a day where it is easy for many to presume positions of self-importance. Self-promotion is a big deal these days. Jesus has called us to die to self, humble ourselves, and serve. There is a huge difference between exalting self and humbling self. It’s not even close. Jesus, the King of the universe, came to deny Himself, humble Himself, and give Himself for others. We are called to be like Him. So today and everyday ask how you can be more like Christ and humble yourself by serving others. Jesus said the way to greatness is not up, but down. To be great is to be servant. A very radical teaching for His day and our day. Let’s serve like never before.
“Do not exalt yourself in the king’s presence, and do not claim a place among his great men; it is better for him to say to you, ‘Come up here,’ than for him to humiliate you before his nobles.” – Proverbs 25:6-7
