Identity theft happens every 2 seconds in the United States. People spend tons of money to protect – and recover – their identity. We need to protect our spiritual identity, too. By that, I mean Satan is a roaring lion seeking whom he may devour. That’s what the Bible says. Scripture also tells us he is a thief and a liar. He wants to discourage you, deceive you, and derail you. John 10:10 says, “The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.”

Protect your identity by remembering three things:

  • Who you were before you came to Christ | Ephesians 2:1-3
  • Who you are in Christ | Ephesians 2:4-9
  • Who you are becoming as a disciple of Christ | Ephesians 2:10

And speaking of who you are in Christ, take a few minutes to look up all of these references. This is just a partial list of what the Bible says about “all the spiritual blessings” we have in Christ Jesus (Ephesians 1:3).

We are:

  • Chosen | Ephesians 1:3
  • Adopted | Ephesians 1:4
  • Special | 1 Peter 2:9
  • Treasured | Deuteronomy 7:6
  • Loved1 John 4:10
  • Worth dying for | 1 John 3:16
  • Forgiven1 John 1:9
  • Children of God | Galatians 3:26
  • ProtectedJohn 10:28
  • Promised a future | 2 Corinthians 1:22
  • PreciousIsaiah 43:4
  • Set free | Romans 6:18
  • New | 2 Corinthians 5:17
  • Rewarded | Galatians 6:9
  • Victorious1 John 5:4
  • Gifted | 1 Peter 4:10
  • Blessed | Psalm 1
  • Conquerors | Romans 8:37
  • Light of the worldMatthew 5:14
  • Salt of the earth | Matthew 5:13

That is who you are! This is your true identity in Christ Jesus! Reflect on it. Remember it. And protect it. When Satan tries to con you and dissuade you, return to God’s Word and be reminded of the TRUTH. Jesus is the Way, the Truth, and the Life. And this is what He says about you. Believe it. We have “every spiritual blessing” in Christ.
