As you read through the Proverbs, I urge you to reflect, pray, and apply these devotional bits of encouragement and wisdom to your own life.
Generosity.
Have you mastered it? Are you completely generous? No. None of us are. But we need to become more and more generous. All of us. God is the perfect example of generosity. He gave His only Son, and Jesus gave everything. And He continues to give and give and give. So, if we are to be like Him, we need to be generous. How can you be more generous? With your time? Money? Attitude? Speech? Actions? Faith? How can you be more generous in your relationships? Be more loving, kind, understanding, forgiving, gracious, supportive, encouraging? Many people are essentially greedy, and it shows in many aspects of their lives. They walk through life close-fisted – ready to fight, take, hold onto, control, and lord it over others. God wants us to live life open-handed…and open-hearted. He wants us to love, serve, hope, encourage, give, and live not for self but live to bless God and other people. How can you grow in generosity? We all need to.
“One person gives freely, yet gains even more; another withholds unduly, but comes to poverty. A generous person will prosper; whoever refreshes others will be refreshed. Those who trust in their riches will fall, but the righteous will thrive like a green leaf.” – Proverbs 11:24-25, 28
